Why arts and humanities matter more than ever: A conversation with Christopher Smith, moderated by Anna Vigoles
What drives social change? Why do the arts and humanities matter more than ever? And how do we become "good ancestors"?
I am delighted to invite you to join this conversation with Christopher Smith, Executive Chair of Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), UK Research and Innovation and Anna Vignoles CBE FBA, Director of The Leverhulme Trust. Together, we will explore how societies imagine and create better futures, and reflect on why the humanities are indispensable to building resilient, inclusive societies in an age of technological innovation and environmental transformation.

Prosperity 2030 Report Launch
Launch of a new costed, sequenced programme of structural reform for the UK presented as a 5 year programme for the next government.
The United Kingdom faces an accumulating set of structural problems that no government of the last fifty years has been able to address at the scale required. Household insecurity has deepened, public infrastructure has decayed, local democratic capacity has hollowed, and the welfare system traps the people it was meant to support. Each problem has been the subject of literatures, reviews, and incremental reform; none has reached the depth of structural change the conditions now demand. Prosperity 2030 argues that the failures of the last half-century are structural rather than moral, and will be solved by rebuilding the institutions rather than remaking the people who live in them.
Prosperity 2030 is an output of the Social Prosperity Network, hosted at the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity under the direction of Co-Chairs Professor Dame Henrietta Moore and Andrew Percy. Building on a decade of research on Universal Basic Services, tax reforms, and structural redesign, it is presented as apolitical and non-partisan, for serious consideration by any government that engages with structural reform.
